Professionals Social Network (PSN) is very happy to announce that we will host the Queer Politics in Taiwan through Literature and Family. Through this event hosted by two Taiwanese speakers Wen Liu and Doris Ho, Q-Wavers can get a quick image that what is going on in other Asian country. This talk specifically will address the current queer activism emerging in Taiwan--emphasizing the issues of partnership rights, working rights, queer reproduction, and transnational alliance across the larger Chinese context. Wen will also speak about her new book “Diary of Collective Heartbreak” she published in Taiwan last year that addresses the issues of queer immigration, interracial dating, and lesbian sexuality based in her experiences in Seattle.
About the two speakers:
Wen Liu is a queer Taiwanese writer, activist, and educator. She is currently a doctoral student in the critical social psychology program in the Graduate Center, CUNY, and teaching gender and sexuality at Hunter College. She has published a short fiction and poetry collection “A Necessary Confession” in 2006 and a long fiction “Diary of Collective Heartbreak” in 2012 in Taiwan.
Doris (Zu Ying) Ho, doctoral student at Sociology Department of Graduate Center,
City University of New York. Member on the board of directors of the Taiwan
LGBT Family Rights Advocacy (TLFRA).Her Master’s thesis, “Queer Reproduction: Lesbians’ Parenting Practice, Use of Reproductive Technology and Emotional Identity,” revealed the new pattern of lesbian parenting currently emerging in Taiwan.
